Thesis on Prompt 2

February 3rd, 2009 by dwightmohry

Great actions could be defind as many things. Some may see a great action as a monsterus task achieved with life or world changing effects. Others may see a great action as standing up for that one kid everyone picks on. I believe “Great thoughts speak only to a thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all humankind” is a complex way of saying actions are better understood than words, doing is better than saying, and an action can benefit all humankind compared to a thought, which is just a thought. It does not take a genius to understand an action someone makes compared to a complex sentence. It takes a special someone to go out and do compared to your normal Joe who stands and speaks of what needs to be done. An action such as starting a war can cause untold death and destruction, but two countries or fractions can’t end such an event on just a thought. As the old saying goes, “It’s a lot easier said than done.”

Picking up a pencil or asking for someone to pick up your pencil can be interpreted differently. Some people may take your question as a statement and become enraged by your command and lack of respect. Others may see your question as a joke or a referance to something not involved with your question. If one were to just pick up the pencil all would see the true meaning behind your question. People can understand things better as a visual compared to a statement or question which can be interpreted in different manners.

Some people may say they want to help the starving kids in Africa but it takes a special someone to go out and do it. Everyone can say they want to do this and that, but to go out and do it are two tottaly different things. For example, a person can benefit from winning a trophy or a prize of some sort. There may be others who say they are going to win, but for that one person or team who does, it is a special moment of pride and revelation. As for the others, they have talked and were not able to get it done, sending them into pitty and torment almost hurting themselves in the end. Doing takes a lot more effort and is much more rewarding in the end.

Thoughts are just that, thoughts. The invention of the lightbulb was founded on a thought but was not just left as that. It was expanded and turned into an invention which would turn the page on history and allow us to become as advanced as we are today. What people think and what people do are to tottaly different things. This, I believe, is the real reason “Great thoughts speak only to a thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all humankind.” It shows that for someone to understand an action it does not take a certain IQ or intellectual level. It takes a thought and a will for something to go from your head to reality.

All the reasons given above are good definitions for the stated quote. To do somnething takes time and effort compared to saying which may be left at that. “Great thoughts speak only to a thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all humankind.” This quote explains the reality that doing something is a momentus task that may very well change the course of the world. A thought is a beggining to a greater end . “It’s easier said than done,” they were’nt kidding!
